The US Court of Appeals ruled that the owner of websites used to prepare bankruptcy petitions was a “bankruptcy petition preparer” and subject to obligations imposed by the Bankruptcy Code. The Court held that the website owner had engaged in the unauthorized practice of law because he touted his sites as offering legal advice and projected an aura of expertise concerning bankruptcy petitions.
