This week, thanks to the advice from several posters on this brilliant site, Martin Lewis and the lovely Tracey at the Halifax I have rid myself of a great chunk of my Mortgage, got myself a Life Assurance policy which was effectively paid for by decreasing my building and contents insurance.
Details
Cashed in Standard Life Endowment that was pointless carrying on with for £36,000. Reduced my £44,000 mortgage down to £10,000...with no penalties to pay for doing it (left me £2000 to clear my overdraft)
I then got a new Life Assurance policy instantly with Norwich Union by using Cavendish online which was just under £20 for £100,000 term/level cover for 15 years
Somehow Tracey from the Halifax managed to reduce my monthly Building and Contents insurance with the Halifax from £57.46 a month to £34.45 a month for exactly the same cover (special deal or something)
So this Building and Contents reduction has paid for my Life Assurance.
What a result :j
Thanks for the advice all
